Make the first part before committing to a batch

A machined prototype can help you assess an assembly, prove a design or investigate a manufacturing requirement before placing a production order. We welcome enquiries for individual components and small quantities needed for development work.

Send the latest drawing revision, a STEP model if available, your material grade and the date you need the part. We review the geometry, setups and critical dimensions, then confirm the price and an achievable lead time.

What to include with a prototype enquiry

A 3D model describes the shape, while a dimensioned drawing identifies features that need particular control. Include thread specifications, fits, surface finishes and any dimensions needed for mating parts. If a feature is still being developed, tell us which dimensions are fixed and which can be discussed.

Practical feedback before machining

Our design support focuses on manufacturability. We can discuss how tool access, internal corners, deep pockets or multiple setups affect the machining approach. Any proposed change to your component is agreed with you before manufacture.

Aluminium, steels, brass, copper and engineering plastics are among the materials we machine. Specify the grade you require; if the material has not been chosen, include the component's intended use so we can discuss the enquiry with you.

Timescales and progression to production

Tell us your target date when requesting a quotation. Lead time depends on the component, material availability and current workshop capacity, and is confirmed for each job.

If the prototype is approved, we can review the requirement for batch and repeat machining. Include the approved drawing revision and expected order quantities so that the production quotation reflects the final specification.
